Selecting Keywords for Your Target Niche

Thankfully, there are lots of tools on the Internet that are there to assist you in finding just the right keywords for a specific topic or niche. Many of these tools are free, some are available on a subscription basis and others are available for a one-time fee. One of the most popular, Wordtracker, is available free at a basic level and by subscription for their premium level. You can see that at www.Wordtracker.com .

There is hardly a task more important to an Internet marketer than finding a good set of keywords with which to go to market. You keywords will provide you with the "keys" to your niche and without them, it can be difficult to compete - particularly in the Pay-Per-Click and SEO arenas. At the very least, you will need to have your keyword list to populate the Meta-Tags of your website in order for it to be indexed properly by the search engines.

Now you can see how powerful the keyword research tools can be. While keyword research is not particularly difficult, it can be time consuming.

Be sure to 'go to school' on your competitors for a head start! Find a good competitor, do a keyword search on their URL in the Google Keyword tool and learn what words they have found to work for them. That probably will not be a bad place to start. However, be sure to try to find some additional words or phrases that will differentiate you from the pack.
